The first press conference after winning the lawsuit against Falun

    The so called defamation lawsuit that lasted for 4 years between the Falun Gong and The Chinese Press Eastern Inc. was eventually decided by Madame Justice Jeannine M.Rouseau of the Superior Court of Quebec that the claims of the Falun Gong were dismissed with costs in favour of The Chinese Press Eastern Inc.

    This good news was published on the front page of The Chinese Press on December 12, 2006 and was applauded by the most members of the Chinese community, who took turns calling the publisher Crescent Chau to congratulate him on the incredible victory of defending the freedom of speech and justice.

    In order to let the readers of The Chinese Pressknow about the hearing of this lawsuit and deal with the concerns of friendly sympathizers, The Chinese Pressheld a press conference on the 4th floor of  restaurant Lotte Furama and a seminar at 2 p.m. Mr. Chau was the main speaker, and he answered all the questions put forward by the participants.

     Yang XiLung, the reportor of XinHua News Agency, Li WenZhen of the people's Daily in Ottawa and the local media such as La Journal Luby, Les Nouvelles Chinoises and La Journal Chinois Sinoquebec were present at the press conference. La Radio Chimoise de L'Amerique du Nord did not show up though they had called to congratulate and support.

      At the press conference, Mr.Chau briefly reported what was going on in the above-mentioned lawsuit (for details, please consult the following 3 attachments ), and he again emphasized that the law was supposed to be fair to everybody, and that the court was a very good place to protect justice and truth. This lawsuit lasted for 4 years and the judgement was passed after another year and 9 months. The justice had to read through all the documents submitted by both the petitioners and the respondents before deciding who would be the winner.

      He said:  On the section of An Analysis of The Evidence as to Falun Gong. The judgement clearly points out:

    「[39] Amongst the characteristics of Master Li's teachings are the rejection of science as being misleading and dangerous, the promise of supernatural powers, amongst with a rotating wheel in the stomach of practitioners to purify them, constant health, rejuvenation, and the ability to see into other spatial dimensions.」 Obviously, this is all nonsense and anti-science！

    Also on the judgement:

   「[40] It is a controversial movement, which does not accept criticism.」 is a very pertinent comment！

    The judgement said:「[41]This evidence is not sufficient to allow the court to come to the conclusion that the contents of the impugned articles, as summarized by the petitioners themselves: published to incite hatred and devision in Canada or persecution in the People's Republc of China. The motion must fail.」

     Mr.Chau said: 「To defend freedom of speech, justice and truth, The Chinese Pressinsisted on fighting this legal battle without regret, and we finally won！」

 Answering the questions of XinHua News and People's Daily, Mr. Chau summed up as follows:

    「Facing the allegations of 250 Falun Gong Practitioners (17 had withdrawn) and each of them asked for $100,000 compensation (total 23.5 millions dollars), some legal experts found it unreasonable and believed that this could be used as a mean to push the respondents to a dead end. There is also a possibility that they intended to get rid of all the voices of opposition！ Besides, their greed for money could be one of the motives.

   「I do think that as media, it is our duty to investigate Li HongZhi and the Falun Gong in an objective way, and to make sure that the people victimized by the Falun Gong are treated with justice by a reasonable report to the public.

   「Since 1999, the Falun Gong has been considered 'an evil cult' banned by the government of China. The media in the West has been criticizing the Chinese government for suppressing freedom of worship as well, but few have mentioned the reason why the Falun Gong is not tolerated. In a very short time, the Falun Gong carried out lots of demonstrations, large scaled propaganda, distributing fliers almost everywhere. They have tried to stop any negative reporting about Falun Gong by means of harassment and lawsuit in order to gag the critics and La Presse Chinoise. During the lawsuit, the Falun Gong asked the judge to lay an injunction on any articles by La Press Chinoise regarding Falun Gong. Their propaganda network, including The Epoch Times, New Tang Dynasty TV, Minghui Website broadcasted and   published hundreds of provocative articles to defame me. What I have been facing is a culture-revolution like defamatory attack. Such an attack is rarely seen in a country like Canada. There must be something unusual behind the banning of the Falun Gong in China. What did they do before that? Why did they were cracked down all of a sudden? Do they have any untold secret?

   「During the lawsuit that lasted for 4 years, I realized that the so called 〔almighty〕Li Hong Chi boasted that his supernatural power is incomparably superior to the Buddha, but he can not prove it. Obviously, he just takes advantage of the Chinese virtues of 〔forgiveness〕and 〔inclusion〕to deceive innocent people of their sympathies. I think Li HongZhi must believe in an absurd theory that a lie will turn out to be true after being repeated  it a thousand times.

   「With widespread propaganda, Falun Gong has treated Li HongZhi like a peerless god. Is Li HongZhi a god or Buddha or just an impostor trying to deceive the whole world under the cover of Buddhism? We will find out the answers.

  「Right or wrong, good or evil, is not defined by Li HongZi, but concluded by the public. One can not go against the freedom of speech. As to the abilities of 〔delaying the Big Bang of our universe〕, 〔opening the heavenly eyes〕, 〔flying into the air〕and 〔fetching an object in a distance〕of Li HongZhi are absolutely unfounded and unbelievable, like a fool telling his dreams in Chinese sayings.

  「Canada is a free and democratic society and freedom of speech is protected by the constitution. The judgement that points out that the 〔Falun Gong does not accept criticism〕also indicates that being dictatorial and arrogant is the true nature of the Falun Gong.

  「Within 30 days after the judgement on December 7 2006, the Falon Gong lodged an appeal on January 5 2006.

  「To defend freedom of speech, justice and truth, we are ready to face any challenge no matter when and where.」
