Falun Gong threatens a storeowner in Chinatown:
While being interviewed by a reporter of the
Chinese Press on Tuesday, Madam Zhen, the storeowner of Jeanne's Fruits de Mer Secs et Nourriture en Vrac located at Unit M06 on the second floor of
Place du Quartier shopping mall in Chinatown said: "My store is open
everyday and selling newspapers is part of the business. But I have been
harassed and threatened by a group of Falun Gong practitioners for 3 days
since last Friday afternoon. Though I had repeatedly demanded them to leave,
they refused and kept yelling at me. That was more than I could tolerate, so
I warned them if they stayed in my store any longer, I would call 9-1-1!" "To my surprise, they (2 men and 1 woman) threatened me in return: 'It
should be us who call the police, not you.' And I said: 'What for?' they
said: 'Because you are distributing this newspaper (i.e. the Truth Magazine)
to help them attack and defame Falun Gong!' Madam Zhen said angrily. According to the storeowner of Jeanne's, while the male practitioners
threatened and harassed her, the female one was photographing her in close
range. But she wasn't scared away and stood in front of the camera instead.
"I'm well over sixty, still running a store and pay taxes. Should you call
the police to arrest me, I will fight to the Prime Minister Stephen Harper's
office!" Madam Zhen said, apparently referring to the practitioners' warning
her not to distribute the Truth Magazine or they would take the photos and
bring her to court! She told the practitioners she wasn't afraid of them at all and "suit me as
you wish, I'll keep on distributing this newspaper. You have interrupted my
business for 3 days, see who will file the motion first! Don't you think you
can domineer me because I'm alone in the store? I'm a decent taxpayer and I
want you to get lost, right-now!" But her warming fell on deaf ears. Because it happened to be the rush hours
of the shopping mall, those practitioners not only prevented her from doing
business but also blocked the passage to the Kam Fung restaurant next door
and that angered many Chinese and non-Chinese Dim-Sum goers. After asking a
Chinese bystander about the dispute, a white gentleman stood out to demand
the practitioners to leave immediately and they obediently retreated! She said that she changed the strategy later by placing only a few copies
each time and they were gone too! The practitioners kept waiting and
watching the whole day until the store closed. "I wouldn't put out any on
Sunday but be back on distributing on Monday and today (Tuesday). I still
have a couple dozens of copies in my garage." She said, as if she were
fighting a guerrilla war against the Falun Gong practitioners with her
flexible defending techniques. Madam Zhen is from China. Immigrating to Canada a decade ago, she's been
doing many different jobs. Being straight-forward and courageous, she dare
to face any kind of unreasonable provocation and that nature is rarely seen
in a senior of the same age. Besides, other distribution places in Montreal were also harassed. An owner
of a north-end grocery store complained: "They rushed into my store grabbing
all the copies and warned that if I put out any they would come back later
to pick them up." In Chinatown, a long established bookstore didn't distribute the Truth
Magazine separately but enclosed in the Chinese Press they sold. A woman
stepped in speaking to the owner's wife in Mandarin: "Throw away all the
Truth Magazine!" "Who are you?" asked the owner's wife. The woman didn't
answer and walked away instead. In a supermarket, someone tried to withdraw the Truth Magazine from the
Chinese Press and was caught on the spot. He put it back and left in shame.
We should show our respect to these storeowners for their fearing not the
harassing campaign of the Falun Gong practitioners and insisting on
distributing the Truth Magazine.
