  Canada Day’s closing act

  Les Petites Voix du Plateau

Under the leadership of choir conductor and pianist Roseline Blain, Les Petites Voix du Plateau bring together nearly one hundred choristers, the majority of whom live in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough. Established in January 2012, this children’s choir has quickly carved out a prominent place in Montreal’s cultural landscape.

Some of their recent collaborations include performing Carl Orff’s famous Carmina Burana with the McGill Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of maestro Boris Brott, at Place des Arts’ Maison symphonique in June 2017. In addition to their spring 2018 concert entitled L’hymne au Printemps, some choir members also performed in Holst’s The Planets at the Maison symphonique with the Orchestre Métropolitain.

  H’Sao

Montréal-based band from Chad H’SAO has been capturing the hearts of small audiences and large crowds alike since 2001. Whether its style is labeled Afro-fusion or Afro-jazz, H’SAO is defined by the strength of its voices and vocal harmonies, its rhythms and its authenticity. The band has always been passionate about sharing its unique blend of modern sound and traditional African musical influences.

H’SAO has traveled the world, delivering electrifying performances, launching three innovative albums and, most of all, developing a musical signature that spans several genres and thus transcends the “world music” category, leading up to its last album Oria, nominated for World Music Album of the Year at the Gala de l’ADISQ.

Bea Box – aka Joannie Labelle

Joannie has started composing a few years ago coming back from Berlin to Montreal. To compose has relieved and brought her to this special place inside where there is no barrier.

She now composes full-time between concerts, exploding the frontiers of her feelings through music. Bea Box is for her a laboratory where she creates music within a deep sense of freedom.

  Geraldina Mendez, soprano

Geraldina Mendez obtained a Master of Fine Arts Degree (piano) at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of the Ukraine. Her interest in performing the works of J. S. Bach, compelled her to participate at the 4th International “Johann Sebastian Bach Piano Competition” (Saarbrücken 2001), the Bach Seminar (Leipzig 2001) and the 13thInternational Johann Sebastian Bach Competition (Leipzig 2002).

For 12 years, she worked as a collaborative pianist. She also studied lyrical singing for 10 years, had the opportunity to perform with orchestras at opera galas and gave numerous chamber recitals in several halls in Caracas city.

She arrived in Montreal in 2014 and started singing opera arias in the Montreal Metro in 2015. The next summer she joined the STM program, Les Étoiles du Métro. During this time she was interviewed by La Presse (Les tresors du Métro de Montréal) and by Réné Homier-Roy for the Radio Canada program Culture Club (Geraldina Mendez, De chanteuse dans le Métro a star du web).

  Nomad’Stones

Originating from multiple roots, Nomad'Stones is a project inspired by the billions of dust that each one sows on its way. Nomad 'Stones was elected Révélation Radio-Canada in World Music 2018-2019.

The resultant mixed-race music wavers between the Africa of the origins and the West of the discoveries, with a style imbued with humanism where the idea of frontier no longer exists.
